One of our favorite sites is www.idealbite.com because it gives daily tips on how to live a little lighter on the earth. I like that the tips are short, informative, and best of all simple. The site plays to my frugal and practical sensibilities, but also is light and entertaining, helping me to take 'one little bite at a time' towards living a better, healthier life for me, my family, and the planet. We give the daily ideal bite tip in the 8 o'clock hour.
What's On The Bedside Table?
The Oxford Treasury of World Stories
Edited by Michael Harrison and Christopher Stuart-Clark
In this collection of stories from around the world, each tale is seen through fresh eyes. The stories and tales include funny stories, clever stories, sad stories and strange stories, each one reflecting the country from which it comes.
The book begins with Anansi the spider tricking his friends and winning as usual; and ends with a woodcutter being lured away and lost forever in a jungle. In between are stories about princesses, cats, and frogs; about heroes, kings and thieves. Robin Hood and Ned Kelly have their adventures, and there‘s a Cinderella story from North America that is certainly not the Disney version.
I think my favorite ones included the Frog Princess- a story from Russia about how a Tsar’s 3 sons chose their wives - and the frog princess - who 'looked' like she'd be the worst choice, was actually the best choice. Also The Two Cats- a story from Ireland about how a fat cat and a skinny kitten each was an answer to prayer and found a home to be loved in, but with a very odd twist. Most of the stories had humor or messages that crossed cultural borders and could be understood by everyone, but there were a few that I just didn’t get the point. It was fun to get a sneak peek into the childhood stories of other cultures, and see some familiar stories in a new light.
The Oxford Treasury of World Stories, Edited by Michael Harrison and Christopher Stuart-Clark, is what’s on the bedside table.
Wave Music Reviews
Craig Chaquico "Follow The Sun" (Shanachie)
After a rather long hiatus, the Ashland resident has put a lot of work into this new ten-song set, a blend of Smooth Jazz, New Age and American Indian influences.
The CD includes “Lights Out San Francisco”, featuring Peter White on Spanish guitar. The instrumental version of this song was actually a hit Smooth Jazz focus track on its own back in the mid 1990’s. Newly revamped, the tune now features a straightforward vocal track by newcomer Rolf Hartley.
Check out the Carlos Santana style riffs on the tune, “Azores Lisboa”.
To make you feel good all over, nothing will do it better than the very unusual, “Circus Beach”; a wacky, off-the-wall confection written by Chaquico, as were nine of the CD’s ten songs. And what about the tenth tune?
Probably the best track on this album was written by Kenny G. “Songbird”, Kenny’s “signature song”, is done up in a melodic, reserved style, showcasing Chaquico’s proficiency on the acoustic guitar.

Richard Elliot "Rock Steady" (Artistry Music/Mack Avenue Records)
This is Richard’s best effort since “Metro Blue”; the CD that featured the blockbuster hit, “People Make The World Go Round”. Most of the tracks on this album were produced and mixed by trumpeter, Rick Braun.
Elliot acts like a man on a mission, charging out of the starting gates with his current hit track, “Move On Up”, written by the Impressions lead singer, Curtis Mayfield.
“Straight Up” features Rick Braun on trumpet and additional sax from Gerald Albright. It’s totally listenable… especially with the volume turned all the way up.
Aretha Franklin would even be proud of what Elliot has done with the title track, which was a hit song for her in the fall of 1971.
In my opinion, the best track on this CD is “License To Chill”. See what you think.
This set of tunes is definitely a contender for CD of the Year. A “must have”.
